Hello,

Regarding quail hunting in SE Kansas:

I hunted the area from 97 thru 2006 and have not been since...

The bird numbers on our property there have been dismal since 06'

Where we used to move 10 (or more) coveys per day...dropped to 1 or 2 at best...due to severe weather and habitiat loss.

However I am hearing good reports from the area.

Anyone hear hunt SE Kansas?
If so...what are your thoughts on this season.

We have land west of Iola. 300 acres and haven't kicked up a covey yet (been planting chukar for pup) with relative good habitat. Talked to the District Wildlife Biologist and the whistle count in late Spring was up over 08. Seen lots of pairs in the ditches -- we are high for rainfall but it's been really dispersed as opposed to years past when we have a flood-like June during the hatch.

I took a couple trips down there last year and I thought the quail numbers were pretty low compared to previous years. Hopefully they are on the rebound.
