A recall has been announced for Diamond, Country Value and Professional brand dog and cat food.

The pet food manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods may contain aflatoxin. Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring toxic chemical byproduct of mold, which can cause sickness in pets.

The pet food was distributed in Alabama and 22 other states.

For more information call the company at 573-229-4203 or visit the Web sites http://www.diamondpet.com or http://www.fda.gov.

Ya, that sounds like the recall a few years back. Which was a BIG thing, killed lots of dogs and made me swear off Diamond for life.

I didn't think that the recall a few years back that killed several pets was Diamond. But then again I didn't pay much attention back then either. My cat currently eats Diamond food and loves it. Haven't had any problems.

But thank you for the post. This is the first post about a product recall that I have seen here. Its good to know everyone is looking out for everybody. And if you do hear of anything else please let us know it is appreciated

Well I have to take my words back. Found this on the web...

....the Diamond Cat foods that are the subject of a voluntary recall were made in the same South Carolina plant that produced toxic dog food in 2005. At that time, dog food manufactured in this Gaston, SC facility was found to be contaminated with a poisonous corn-based fungus, which led to the deaths or illnesses of dozens of dogs nationwide.Under the current voluntary recall, several batches of two Diamond cat food products, Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat Food and Premium Edge Hairball Cat Food were found to be deficient in thiamine (Vitamine B1). Cats who do not get adequate amounts of thiamine in their diets can suffer neurological problems, and can even die. Early signs include loss of appetite and vomiting.

The FDA classifies the Diamond Cat Food recall as a "Class I" recall, indicating that there is a possibility of serious illness or death. The agency is currently in the process of conducting an investigation into the matter.

I wasn't able to find any evidence that the recall includes dog products. But this happening after the huge problem they had some years back (see here.... http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005...planet/main1172326.shtml?source=mostpop_story ) solidifies my mind that Diamond foods are NOT for me.

Are you sure about this? The only thing that I can find on the internet is an older recall from several years ago. Nothing on Diamonds's web site.

Of course I am sure about it. It is just that it happened in 2007. My mistake it was an old article. Sorry guys
