New Quail Hunter

I have a springer and have been hunting pheasants pretty hard for a few years. This fall I have had some bad experiences on public land in Iowa while pheasant hunting. I decided to change up my hunting a little. I was fortunate enough to get some access to areas where a mixed bag of pheasant and quail, or even primarily quail, are possible.

I know quail is supposed to be a pointing dog's game but I have a springer and a new dog is definately not in the cards for a few years at least so I am going to make a go of it with what I have.

Either way I am excited to hunt some new types of cover and see and hunt some areas I have never had the opportunity to hunt.

I am in Rockford, Illinois and hope to hunt quail in Iowa next year with my
son and his German Shorthair. Need places to go or people to hunt with that
need a dog or some company and have places to hunt. We are not opposed to
paying for the wild quail hunting opportunity.

If you have any suggestions, it would be appreciated.

I hunted quail for several years with Springers and they did great. I think it depends on the type of cover you are in but in the NE part of Oklahoma they worked good. Mine were also excellent duck dogs until it got really cold.
