Need Help

Hey guys this season started off great until the last couple of weeks and a half. I noticed my gundog Bridget had lost some weight and I took her to the vet. I found out she is now diabetic. Well after two trips to the vet, insulin and special food she is still losing weight and drinking gallons of water a day. Any info or help on what to expect would help. I don't hunt her now and I am keeping her indoors to burn less calories.
 
We have her taking 7 unit of Navolin N twice a day along with a prescribed diet high in protein and fibers.
 
Sounds stupid but my diobetic lab gets a snickers bar before each field we hunt and one when we get home. My wife fixes him a big pan cake with lots of syrup every morning. My vet prescribed it. He said it is opposite of human diobetes. Dog is now 14.
