My male black lab is 5.5 years old. When I got him I did a lot of research, some of it seemed to be scientifically proven, others seemed to be word of mouth like what is above, but I made the decision not to neuter him because of my gut feeling from what all I'd read. No way to ever know if it was the correct decision or not, but so far it's been great! No injuries, tons of stamina, a pheasant hunting machine. Everybody I've hunted with has said he's the best bird dog they've hunted with. That said, he also still has tons of energy at all other times and sometimes its a pain in the butt on the rare occasion he's in the house or when traveling. Not a big deal to me, but the wife makes it a big deal and therefore doesn't enjoy him much.
