I'm thinking about joining Mid America Hunting Association or Hunting Sports Plus and heard there was a thread here, but I can't locate it. Anyboby have any thoughts on the subject

Thread in the lounge about it.

Correction. It's in the Main pheasant hunting forum.

my only thoughts with them,is that they leased up some of my best turkey hunting spots that I had.Guess what,no one hunts them. What a waste of prime country.

My exact experience also. Only for deer and that's only 2 weeks out of the year on a prime piece of goose hunting ground. Now, nobody gets to hunt it. My personal opinion is I hope the economy causes all those types of places to dwindle in membership opening back up some of this land.

Pretty soon Kansas will be like Texas where all the land is either private or leased! Sad story but Public hunting is kansas is losing acres every year and bird hunting ground access is getting harder and harder to find. Even with a sluggish economy those hunting clubs are doing very well because more and more people are finding public hunting access harder to find. Land owners are finding it hard to keep opening their land to the public because of those couple bad hunters who ruin it for everybody.

I have to tell you, I live in Florida where fisihng is great and hunting is not just bad, it's really bad. Over the past 30 years I've hunted birds, from Kansas to Alaska. I'm not a spring chicken anymore and everyone of my trips are valuable to me. I've been trying to do my home work so in another few years when I'm sitting in my rocking chair I'll have some good memories. It looks to me like MAHA is a good deal, although it costs a few dollars it allows me to hunt everything that's important to me without having to compete with other hunters on public land. I'll probably keep hunting public land to siupplement MAHA. Heck I was in WHIA in SE Kansas last week and was in quail and loving it. Thanks for the opinions folks:cheers:

You will see absolutely no love from towards these types of places or the people who patronize them. Lease up land so that an out of stater can come hunt it. Probably land that you once used to have permission to bird hunt on. Now some dude from the east coast who makes out once a year gets to hunt it.

So Bluskies, if you only make it out here once in a while whats wrong with our public land.

Why don't you start planning trips to SD, ND or MT. I'd much rather pay 1500(or whatever its cost to join that place), and just go to SD once a year for a few days or ND or MT.

SD already has the pay to play thing and here in KS we are trying to keep it out as much as possible so that all can enjoy the out of doors and not just a select few.

I am an out of stater and I'll make you an offer. I live on the Gulf of Mexico. Check out Pensacola Fishing Forum. We have all the fresh and salt water you'll ever want to fish. I'll be happy to take you or point you to some one to help you with the type of fishing you want to do.

Like most people that live in a state I fish and hunt on the weekends in my state.

When I go out of state to hunt it's for a week at a time. I spend as much time scouting as I do hunting. To say the least it's expensive to go out of state, not to mention valuable vacation time. I don't know how many times I've pulled up to WIHA to find hunters have gone in ahead of me and killed or flushed all of the birds out of the field, so I move on to the next area in hopes there are birds there.

I don't usually offend people and hope I haven't offended you. Places like MAHA are for people like me who are out of state and I'm glad to have it as a resource.

The offer is open folks contact me if you have week you want to fish in the Gulf
