Just got back from a very enjoyable 5 day hunt in SD!
Hunted 1 day just SW of Plankinton...lots of birds
1 day around the Woonsocket area...not as many birds.
and then 1 day about 20 miles west of Wessington Springs...lots of birds.
We shot our limits or close with large group hunts all three of these days.
Last two days hunted ground in Turner / McCook counties....the area where I grew up. The locals told us they had been seeing very few birds. We hunted with a smaller group both of these days...but found birds in most of our spots.
Last year a lot of cover and areas where we had hunted in the past were full of water. This year just the opposite. However...if the roosters did not have access to water within close proximity...they simply were not there.
Cover + food + water = roosters providing there are any to be had in a particular area. Our last day I shot my limit of roosters plus a bonus coyote!!
We were blessed with great weather...and great hunting!
