Once April starts the dogs become full time whitewater/fishing guides. Raft came out for cleaning this weekend in preparation for our annual Rio Grande River turkey cast n blast.

Sounds like I will have to start making my database. Headed further South this time around but main focus will be ducks on the Arkansas - out of Lamar. If i stumble on them it will be great - otherwise ill just focus on marking spots for next year.

Headed down to the Grasslands to try one last go at scaled quail. I was shown a map of guzzler locations down there by a local at the bar and have not been able to located it online. Wondering if anyone here has some insight on where it can be found.

Thats how grandpa taught me to kill grouse in the north woods. Granted no dog, .410 single shot fixed full choke on the bicycle handlebars, aim for the very top of the head. Now - I Dont do that hunting with dogs.

Then I had a great retrieve yesterday on a Gambels quail that I only partially hit. Younger dog found the bush it was under and scared it out, but didn't see it, my other dog saw it run and was the one to chase it down. Just awesome synergy between the two. Were these western slope CO gambels...

Was not in Sidney but across the boarder in Sedgwick they were cutting corn last week. I would say little over 60% out on the CO side.

They act like spruce grouse - but I am in Colorado now. Wish I was in MN - perfect time to go up to Lake of the Woods for some fall musky and grouse hunting.

Been seeing quite a few more moose up in that area as well. I dont know if the wolves are pushing them further south - but up near Big Fork i have never seen so many signs of wolves. Every night they were firing off while we camped along the river.

Went for a hike Saturday near A-basin and watched my doodle take off after some ptarmigan. Took the trip back Sunday with my gun and managed to take 2 birds. Totals for the weekend are 22.4 miles and 5255 vertical feet - the dogs would not get out of bed this morning. Very cool experience and...

I have a year old field Golden from goldenboy on this site. He would be a great point of contact - but I would look into a local training/gamefarm to see how your pup reacts to clipped birds. This is my goldens first season and so far she is coming into her own on blue grouse.

I have had 10-15 run ins with MN DNR, but never got a ticket. Just about every fishing and grouse opener. Got caught in ND goose hunting by one of the DNR planes. Our spread was a little too close to the property line - and after some discussion and comparing OnX maps we only had a trespassing...

My local gun shop has one for a good deal from what I can tell. It has fixed Skeet 2 chokes and a 30'' barrel. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this manufacturer. Something about hunting birds out west makes me want to pick up a SxS.
