    Prepping for a controlled burn.

The best preparation makes for the best burn. If you are wanting to do a spring burn fall mowing and baling gives a great headstart. If not done in the fall mowing and raking is a good idea. Lots of water and people who know what is expected of them is a absolute. We burned 4 pieces yesterday...

    How the Birds learn?

Wild pheasants try many things to escape danger(us). Someone asked about pointers being able to pin/point educated birds? I believe whatever has worked for the bird in the past is what they do=learned behavior. I have shot many birds over points where the bird was holding on the edge of cover...

    Winter driving tip

People are always asking about traveling and minimum maintenance roads.. stay off the minimum maintenance roads and you won't ever get stuck on a minimum maintenance road. Most gravel roads are passable.. if in doubt turn around.

    Ugly Dog Hunting service (10)

So yesterday I tried to order some product. My card was declined. I checked and there was no reason to be declined. I tried a second card and it appeared to go thru but there was no confirmation and I was returned back to the declined card. Well 10 minutes goes by and the fraud unit from my...

    Tail talk 😄

One of the other threads has lots of comments about dog tails. I prefer the docked tails like my weims or gsp's. I actually get a bigger kick out of the helicopter action of a dogs tail on hot scent over the stiff tail on point. The former means there maybe some action , the later means I have...

    Unusual find

My brother , the deer hunter , was walking in the river bottom and spotted a rooster tail sticking out of the grass. He grabbed the tail and the bird didn't move. Bird was crushed by a tree that fell over.

    My shooting

So I stated in a earlier post that I am always happy if the others guys I hunt with shoot all the birds. I surmised they never went 70 for their last 70. Of course I got some flack about that. I explained I hunted every day with great dogs on ground I knew. Short barreled shotgun wide open choke...

    Fun hunt with the dogs

Hunted some crp early today running all 3 of my weims. Pushing 60° with a 15 mph wind. Had some good tracking, trailing pointing. Had all 3 on point in a field corner. 5 roosters boiled out and as was getting ready to pick 1 out another 3 came out. Picked 1 of them and dumped him. A younger me...

    High protein and organ failure?

Seems that 30 years ago everyone cautioned against feeding high protein year round. Has the food gotten better or is liver/kidney damage still a real concern?
