    Crazy weather

The area where we hunt is in the 15-23 inch range for snow - wow, crazy! Good thing is the moisture is definitely needed. But one question - does a spring storm with this much snow and wind affect the pheasants at all? Or won’t it affect them, especially with April just around the corner?

    2023 Season

Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories from the 2023 season - very fun to read, and definitely some cool pictures too. Looks like people had a great season across the state, even though it always seems to fly by way too fast. Hopefully this weather continues - it’s been easy for the...

    2023 Season

Went out today in far SW Minnesota for the last time for the season. We had 6 guys in our group and came away with 10 birds. Always should have had more, since our shooting was a bit questionable, and we really bombed one bit of strategy that would have gotten us some more shots! Either way, a...

    2023 Season

We are going to get out to chase some birds once more in SW MN either Wednesday or Thursday this week - then off on a family trip to Florida. Hopefully the roads will be OK in the next day or so - any road reports out there?

    Opening weekend

Thanks for the update - much appreciated. If the area there around Canby is like much of the rest of SW MN, then there is probably still a lot of corn left in the fields, which makes a difference.

    2023 Season

We hunted just Saturday in SW MN on private land. Lots of rain the previous day or two, and it all soaked right into the ground. Lots of corn still standing, which is just part of the deal with the opener. Nice weather this week, so hopefully more corn comes out soon. We saw probably 15-20...

    Opening weekend

Saw that as well…where we hunt, it looks like it could be light showers most of the morning, but then just cloudy in the afternoon. Still a few days from Saturday, so we’ll see as it gets closer.

    Early reports

Early pheasant reports from the harvest are very positive. Talked to two farmers in the area we hunt in SW MN, and they have both started on corn, and both farmers said they are seeing pheasants everywhere. Very encouraging!

    Opening weekend

You bet! Great answers, Flushedup! Here’s how I am answering: 1. Hunting with my son and most likely my dad 2. 1 dog - Wirehaired Pointing Griffon (2 yrs old) 3. God’s Country - SW Minnesota 4. 12 gauge with 5 shot Prairie Storm 5. Hunting all private land 6. Would love mostly cloudy, mid 50s...

    Opening weekend

Just a month away from opening weekend, and I am pumped; I hope these next 30 days go fast! I can’t wait to get out in the field. To think more about opening weekend and get the juices flowing, how would you answer each of these questions about the opener? 1. How many people in your group...

    MN Pheasant Map 2023

First-hand accounts from the field will tell the true story - excited to hear those stories and insights throughout the season. But the roadside counts in SW MN are encouraging and certainly a positive.

    MN Pheasant Map 2023

Does anyone know if the data can be accessed by county? It’s probably somewhere, I just may have missed it. The latest issue of Outdoor News lists a few of the top counties in their article, so I am wondering where they got that info.

    MN Pheasant Map 2023

It's always fun to see that map each year and what the prospects look like in each area of the state. Overall, considering the winter we had in a lot of parts of the state, this is really encouraging. Just shows what good nesting conditions will do for pheasants. Can't wait for the season!
