  • Chickens aren't much good down that way either from what I understand. I've never hunted them S of Chase County. You have a chance of running across a few quail in that area, but our quail hunting hasn't been great for some time. I would consider Fall River WA if you don't want to drive to pheasant territory. Heck you may find a rooster down there while you're chasing quail.
Thanks, this is pretty much what I'm heard from others as well. How about quail or prairie chickens?

Sorry, but you're not going to find "good" pheasant hunting within 3hrs of Joplin, MO. I'm sure you could find a pheasant or 2 if you put in enough hours walking and you happen to pick the right spot. I believe you're going to need to be W of Wichita. As you get closer to Pratt your chances increase significantly. Invest the extra 1.5hrs driving. I have heard of people seeing pheasants on the large WIHA near Wichita. You may even find some south of Wichita, but I've never hunted down that way.

    Good luck whever you go!
