The ONLY gun cleaning solvent I have used is Hoppes #9. Passed on to me by my father over 60 years ago. I also us Rem oil between gun cleanings for lubrication in my auto loader.

I grew up using Hoppes #9 and still have a bottle; however, I now use WD40 as a solvent on the first patch or two; followed by a dry patch and then a patch with CorrosionX or Barricade to coat the inside of the barrel and for the exterior metal.

I use Hoppe's and WD-40 on my shotgun steel and Renaissance wax on the wood. On my rifles. I use Hoppe's, Shooter's Choice, Sweet's to remove the copper fouling on my varmint rifles, and Butch's Bore Shine when I can't find Shooter's Choice.

Hoppe's mostly, CLP sometimes, Hornady, One shot on the slides of my handguns. I also use Renaissance on my sxs's, stocks (oil finished) and barrels. Some are saying that the Renaissance may be better for storage in the safe, but during hunting season, Johnson paste wax is a better application.
