weekend reports!!

Hey ~ our far eastern hunt got cancelled due to snow depth. Friend who's ranch we hunt on said don't bother due to mud and snow depth.
I was near Bennett on Sunday and there was @ 3 feet of snow there....

OK, I went out yesterday in northeastern CO. I was pretty far west and north (Logan and weld counties) so not in best pheasant area, but in an area a few years ago I could get a bird or two. I saw a few birds around, but they are still pretty far and few between. I did manage to bag one, but felt kinda guilty shooting one with such a low population.

I don’t know how other areas in eastern CO are this year, but I would think there at least some areas better than where I was.

Like the original poster I’d be interested in hearing other reports about eastern CO.

Trying to get out this coming weekend some were in NE but sounds like it will be a walk in the fields. Even though, the pups could use a stretcher.

Went out Saturday - most people I have seen out in the last 3 years. Must have pushed back the party hunts from the weather on opener. Started in Sedgwick hunted a few fields south of there and put up a few hens. Drove south from there to Holyoke for lunch at Happy Jacks, and continued driving south just checking cover on some prior spots. Walked some areas around Yuma and headed back. Seemed like some guys were having success, bird count on the road was higher than past years. Gives me hope for the rest of the season.

hunted up on both sides of holyoke today. my golden nosed up two, in front of me. i forgot to close the action on my shotgun, so even though she was too far from me, it didn't matter!! chased up a hen, close by.

south of town, hunted a couple of walk in corners. nothing. rooster flushed out of a new wheat field on our way out.

my dogs had a good time, but, not sure if i'll try again.

I have not been out in CO yet. I had an October trip in ND and a November trip in SD.

I finally did go out to Colorado NE area the weekend of November 22nd. Put some miles on the back roads scouting and walking potential fields.
A few hens and 3 roosters overall. Missed two roosters and harvest the other from solid dog work of my girls GSPs. It was good to get out and will probably do it again for the adventure and being outdoors.
