University of Minnesota has a buckthorn replacement project "Cover Up". One strategy is to use other plants to displace buckthorn once the buckthorn is pulled or cut back.
They are promoting wild rye as one way to displace the buckthorn. This project could end up spreading more wild rye grass all across the state of Minnesota.
Listen and put close caption on. They mention wild rye in the story. I realize there are many wild ryes, but one can quickly ascertain that Canadian wild rye and other dangerous ryes can end up in the mix.
