This time of year I have no choice but to run the dogs on Sunday and shoot with the camera. It was sloppy out there today but the dogs enjoyed the run and I was provided with some good opportunities to get some pictures.

The dogs found these 5 birds pretty quickly

Here are some close ups of some of the birds:

Nittany and Blitz had a good point but the bird managed to slip away before we could flush it.

I heard some birds cackling in the distance and when I was driving home I saw these guys:

They look to be in good shape and are managing to avoid this guy:

These birds should be around for a while to give the dogs some good work.

I got some more pictures today when running the dogs. This time the day belonged to the girls. All I we found were some hens.

I also saw a good number of geese, some ducks and doves.

And since the pheasant season is over or just about over for many I thought it would be good to end with a bird fading into the sunset:

Good, they look very wild.
Cedars/Juniper, Very Pheasant friendly during the bad stuff. Notice the bare ground underneath? Part of their value.
A bird can scratch out survival food in those bare spots.

Yes they can. Junipers and pine trees, make great wind breaks and shelter for Pheasant in the wintertime.

Here are some pictures from 3-7-14. I have some other pictures of the dogs in the PA forum.

I finished walking the fields and then it was time to go home. What a nice drive home:

The birds are looking good after the rough winter. I'll keep trying to find the quail but I don't have much hope in finding them. My best chance may be to hear them calling in another month or so.
