SIOUX FALLS, S.D. August 24, 2020 - For the week ending August 23, 2020, there were
6.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 10% very short, 43% short, 46% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 6% very short, 32% short, 61% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 3% very poor, 5% poor, 18% fair, 64% good, and 10% excellent. Corn dough was 89%, well ahead of 51% last year, and ahead of 76% for the five-year average. Dented was 30%, well ahead of 6% last year, and near 26% average.
Soybean condition rated 3% very poor, 5% poor, 20% fair, 64% good, and 8% excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 94%, well ahead of 69% last year, and ahead of 88% average. Dropping leaves was 16%, ahead of 6% average.
 
That's good news for us pheasant hunters, but more important, much more important, good news for the farmers working to make a living.
