Oral Melanoma

My 13 yr old Vizsla has been diagnosed with oral melanoma. The spot we had removed from her cheek and tested is already growing back and we think it's in at least 1 lymph node. I've learned this is pretty aggressive and not many great options. Taking her to an oncologist on Wednesday for a consult and possible surgery. Some tough choices ahead.

very sorry to hear that. your dog has had a long life and I assume a very good one. lost my 7 yr old britt to lymphoma last year. very rough on her.

Thanks guys. She was the pup I bought without telling my wife or getting her approval because I knew she'd say no. I got chewed out big time when it was time to go get her. She became my wife's constant companion and comfort dog through multiple surgeries and my wife's 16 chemo treatments. She has never been anything but a blessing.

Do the right thing earlier than you think. My vizsla got bone cancer and would appear fine one day and not so great others. He wanted to be with us like all those vizslas and we think he was in pain far longer and worse than we knew. Tough choices and tough to deal with. Best of luck.

Our Vizsla had surgery a couple days ago to remove the existing tumors in her cheeks. One vet discussed removing her lower jaw and that is not something we would consider. We're not doing standard chemotherapy or radiation. Not at 13. She's starting to heal up and is getting back to her normal self. They've classified her as Stage 3 and thought maybe 9 months but those things are always subjective. We'll take it a day at a time and do the best we can for her.

Give her extra hugs each and every day. Every day she is with you is a blessing.
