New Model Browning A5 Shims and Cast?

I’d like to hear from those with a new A5. I have a sweet 16 and I’m trying to decide on shims/cast. I know I need to fit it to me and shoot it to decide but i’m interested to hear what others are doing.

It comes with a neutral cast shim. Are you shooting yours just like it came out of the box or are you changing the shims?

I haven't touched my shims yet. I feel like it shoots well for me and felt right straight out of the box. Usually in the summer I play around with some reloads and chokes and I'll probably do that this summer with the Sweet 16 but it just seemed to feel right in the store so I bought one. Overall, probably the best fitting shotgun for me that I ever picked up in a store.

I’m in the midst of patterning mine. Wasn’t really looking for advice on how to pattern. I was just wondering how many just pull it out of the box and go hunting.

I ended up getting 3 extended Trulock chokes for the gun as well. They were on sale and I tend to switch back and forth between lead and steel shot so I liked the idea of being able to quickly tell what choke was in the gun. Plus you don't need a wrench for the extended chokes.

I had reloaded some pheasant loads for the gun and patterned with the Browning modified choke and the Trulock modified choke. I'd have to look at my reloading sheet but at 30 yards, the Trulock choke had 3-5% more bb's in the 30 inch circle as I recall. I had read that some people thought the Browning chokes tend to be a little more open than other name brand chokes and just in the case of the modified choke, that seems accurate.

Probably 96.7%.

86% of statistics are made up on the spot. Only 53% of people know this.

I agree with you. Most shooters and hunters in the United States are used to shooting straight stocked shotguns off the shelf.

When I was in London a few years ago, I visited three gun shops. Every stock of every shotgun on the shelf had cast.

There's a 3% chance I'll remember this data so I can use it in the future. A 14% chance I'll remember the gist of it but have to invent new numbers. And unfortunately, an 83% chance I'll forget the whole thing.

I changed the shims on my Sweet 16, dropped the DAH and moved the stock to create a little cast off. I shoot it better.
