Need helpful advice

I am driving south to hunt in November. What I need to know is this. Public lands to hunt & where I can camp nightly with my truck & camper. I don't have money to pay for private access, so public walk in like Montana has is what I am asking for. If some of this has potential water fowl shooting all the better. It will be me, my dog and hopefully my over worked brother.

You can post messages or send private message. I am currently wandering around my home and planning on heading south soon but will not be in SD till November (at least that is the plan for now.).

Get a Hunting Atlas. It will show you all the public land available. There is plenty. Waterfowl is a lottery hunt. Deadline was back in June. This November will be my 2nd trip to S.D. Last time was back in 2005. I got picked for the waterfowl lottery. We are just going to put miles on the truck finding good locations. We have done the same in Kansas for the last 5 years and have always had success and a good time.
As far as camping, I don't know. There are so many back roads with nothing out there for miles, you could probably stop anywhere and never see another human.

1. Check out the pheasant distribution and hunter distribution map.

2. Look at the public land available

3. The state camp grounds

Based on the above criteria, make you r selection, I would rule out the west river (anything west of the Missouri) it is a poor area for pheasants.

I would go in the following order, the availability of public land, bird numbers and number of hunters. The number of hunters is reduced as the season progresses. So in November most of the early season hunters are gone.

The pick a state park in the vicinity and you are all set.

Thank you for the quick reply. I will start researching as soon as I am near a library. Still on the road.
No kidding water fowl is lottery only!!! WOW! Who would of ever thought

The best hunting the state is west of Chamberlain to Presho South to Winner east to Gregory and back north. All West river.

Thanks. I am laying in my camper using someone's wifi to read & write. I am checking as much as I can while on the road. Thanks again
