Leaving Ca

quail hound

I figured I would share a few pics along my journey to SD. First stop in Boomtown NV, I swear I heard the "tut tut tut" of a mtn quail up there somewhere. JP was convinced this was a fine place to hunt and he wasn't happy to hear the load up command before we explored a few miles of cover.

Off to a good start--it appears the weather is going to show you mercy as it's going to be warm for this time of year---keep us informed on your travels :D

We ended up making it to Wendover which is right at 700 miles from home. We're going to get a bite to eat at one of the casinos and maybe have a refreshment or two.

Weather looks to be a brutal 57 degrees with a wind chill of 54 on thursday. Last year the thursday hunt was -4 at legal shooting time. We decided to wrap up early and had a 6 man limit in the snow in about 90 minutes. Then we went to warm back up and sight see a little:thumbsup:

And here I thought it was supposed to be cold in December over there. I guess we'll just have to tough it out. Scheels in Sparks NV had some awesome taxidermy.

As you can see, badgers are pointers and bobcats are flushers.

Be careful running after your dogs back there. Those badgers love to dig big holes to step in at just the wrong time.

You have clear and mild weather ahead of you. I am very envious - I wish I had time to head to my favorite areas in North Dakota for this week.

Rob it sounds like you're making the most out of the entire trip.:) I wish I could meet up with you all guys out there. Maybe next year if things work out.

Safe travels and let us know how things go.

Nick

Thanks Nick. We're in Cheyenne tonight, should be in SoDak tomorrow afternoon and hunting Fort Pierre Tuesday.

We're halfway across the country and we've finally seen our first game bird out of California, a hen turkey in the road ditch somewhere in western Nebraska.

THERE WILL BE MORE--LOTS MORE!!!! :D:D:thumbsup:

Hey Robert, I mentioned to my wife that I was going to hunt with a couple guys from California. She said California? Do they know anything about pheasants? :D. I said yea I think they do:). She still doesn't get why I do it after all these years.

Eating dinner at the Siver Spur in Fort Pierre. The waitresses in here are really cute and this Shiner block is really good!
