Japan made Winchester 101- Good or bad deal?

Hello everyone,

I'm a chiropractor in a small town in KS. I have an older patient that has recently brought up wanting to sell a Winchester 101. He brought it in the today for me to look at. Its a Japan made Winchester 101 trap gun (Olin Kodensha) w/ 26" barrels, ejectors and can shoot 3" shells. After handling the gun and talking with him a little he said that he's the second owner of the gun and has had it for about 30 years. He is asking $800 for the gun.

Wood has been refinished, with that being taken into account I would say the gun is in good condition and overall very clean.

With my limited knowledge of Winchester firearms and having a hard time finding consistent information on the internet I was wondering if $800 is a good deal on this gun. It is not the Pigeon Grade or Diamond Grade.

TIA

Overall it looks like a pretty well liked shotgun according to these posters.

I have and have had several 101's. All Japan made and all some of the best O/U's I've shot. Currently have a 20 and 28 101's Japan made and wouldn't sell them for double that price. Personally believe the 20 gauge 101 is one of the best handling O/U's I shoot.

Update: purchased the gun today! Did did serial number look up and looks like the gun was manufactured in 1961 according to the Winchester Firearm database. Excited to get out and shoot it!

Thanks again for advice and replies everyone

Had buddies who shot 101's back in college, they were/are very nice guns. Congrats on your purchase.
