Hello. I'm from Plainfield, Il. Not much up here for hunting grounds anymore. Mainly hunt ILDNR sites now. We lost our dog last year so hoping for a new one soon and expanding my hunting areas.

We had a Brittany so I'll probably go with the same. My buddys have gsp but they are a little hyper for me. I need a good house dog/Bird dog mix
 
welcome aboard! I moved out of Lakewood Falls at 55 and 126 7 years ago.
DPCA was my usual place.
Im now a mile from Chain o Lakes State Park. MUCH MUCH nicer!

I'll be at DPCA this November. This will be my first time there. We ususally go to Iroquois or Silver springs. What is the best field at Des Plaines?
 
I dont recall field numbers but I always tried to get in the fields along 55 . Off the frontage road as they were the largest with the most room to spread out.Be careful out there, DPCA can be the wild wild west most of the time.
 
Welcome to the site KSpain I'm in the same boat as you are not very many places to hunt here on the West Side of the state. as for a dog I have a Pudel Pointer and I really enjoy his enthusiasm and his natural ability to hunt, also being family dog and that he doesn't shed I would recommend this breed.

Thanks for the info guys. I am looking for a pointer so I'll check that one out. My wife would like a lab but I'm still leading toward a Brittany

Welcome, there is a ton of useful information on everything you ever wanted to know about gun dogs in the forum. Just remember everybody's got their favorite breed and they all work great (just not as great as my Labrador retriever...:rolleyes:)
