Good luck out there:thumbsup: Like Chris, be safe. Bring back some news on how things are going.:)

Taking off for the farm in Sd tomorrow. Hope to get some updates and photos/video on birds, snow, plots, etc. Will be out for the week. Any other requests on updates?

I predict very little sno remaining in your area. Lots of waterfowl, my backyard is full of ducks and geese.

Good prediction UB. I arrived on Monday to find about 10% of fields covered with snow. Lots of water, sloughs are full again like last year and most springs but really full again this year. Talk about a waterfowl spectacle. Tons of snows and canadian geese as well as ducks too. The sloughs are still frozen today but the ice is black and may be all done after high today of 67. Not seeing a lot of pheasants a deer but if you go out and hunt for them you start seeing some. As always there are near good cover. Saw a group of about 100 pheasants just north of me a few miles and also saw good numbers of hens and a few roosters after driving thru some koshia strips on the farm last night. I think the birds like the deer are still bunched up and "yarded" up and will take much warmer weather and drier ground conditions to ge them to spread back out. Roosters are not very active yet but did think I heard one crowing last night. The ground is incredibly soft and wet right now so there will be no getting around in the fields. I have to believe this hampers wildlife movements as well until it firms and dries up a little.

Good to hear the snow is about gone. Wildlife all should be doing good, plenty of food and ground cover now.

Geese

Had a call Monday from a friend near Geedes SD. He has a 13 acre food plot what was corn last year and its right next to his house.

Got off thre phone to me and walked out on his deck and to his suprise 4 to 5000 lesser Canadian geese took off and flew right over the house--it was calm and he said that their wingbeats caused a breeze on his deck.

AH country living at its best:10sign:

The snows have come and gone. Around for about 2 days. Road that strong south wind outta here yesterday. Today I got the mower hooked to the bog tractor and had to cut the PTO shaft to size (TWICE). Has some koshia strips that needs mowing and then disking prior to new CRP establishment. Hit the first 2 acre strip and pushed about 50 hens out of there. Seemed like 100 birds but probably closer to 50. Saw 1 rooster so looks like the ration is a little out of whack:D

With any luck I can get rest of koshia mowed tomorrow.

More reports from the farm later!

Headed to the Blue Moon for beers and meeting with fire chief to put together a burn plan for FSA. 4 CRP blocks to burn this spring. Finally.

That's okay.:) Their still bunched up in hen/rooster groups from winter (Just in case you didn't know:D)

The Blue Moon in Geddes SD. I had a beer or two there before. It's only about 6 miles from my place.

Cheers:cheers:

I USED TO DELIVER BEER TO THE BLUE MOON. My dad was a whoesaler out of Mitchell.
I saw 4 roosters squaring off and flapping yesterday on the way into town. I am seeing far more roosters than hens. Most of the SnOW GEESE MUST HAVE STAYED WELL WEST OF sIOUX fALLS THIS YEAR. dID NOT SEEMANY.

That's hilaious onpoint. I know we don't agree politically, but we sure are close when hunting season comes around. I pheasant hunt very close to Geddes, and deer hunt in the river hills just on the west side of the river.
It's a small world......

I'm getting really jealous with you guys talking about your land back in SD. Wish I was back there......

We hunt deer so close. We can hear each other shoot almost..LOL

I have no problem having a beer and sharing a walk in the field with anybody. Political stuff means nothing when it comes to that stuff...Cheers

Uncle Buck, thanks for quenching my thirst on a regular basis with your deliveries.....LOL
