Controlling puncturevine

anyone had any success/advice for controlling/eradicating puncturevine (goatheads)?

Any of the 2,4D, glyphosate and dicamba (banvel) type products will easily kill them. They are annual summer weeds. They will begin to germinate in late spring and continue germinating til late summer. If you have had them in the area very long and they produced seed, you will be fighting them for years to come. There are no really good pre-emergents to apply to keep them from germinating. Good luck and just keep spraying.

thanks grassman
this is the first year that they have shown up, in a very small area, thankfully, they did go to seed, I spent two weeks pulling them by hand and picking, shoveling up as many of the "heads" as I could find, needed to know a good way to get a jump on them in the spring without wasting time and more importantly a lot of $
