Snuck out to my usual spot in SouthCentral NE. I don't have a dog (graduate school and at a place that we cannot have dogs). I took a 14 year old from church that finished hunter safety right before the hunt for his first hunting experience, and another newbie that has experience hunting but never pheasants. I shot 2 in the first field we hunted, and that was it for the day. We hunted 6 fields. Saw birds in all but one and plenty of opportunities. Three missed chip shots in the group due to inexperience, and then a few unlucky situations (birds flying right at the other person so you couldn't shoot, guns not cycling, etc). Birds seemed a little more spooky than usual, so I am sure we were hunting fields that had already been hunted. Saw about 12 roosters and 15 or so hens. Mid day was slower, but morning and early evening produced birds. Majority of crops were still in.
