I have always been lucky to not have had to travel far to pheasant hunt. Last year I told myself I wanted to take a road trip to see some new country.
I took Thursday off and drove 3 hours to some public land.
I had a great time met some nice folks and came home with a few birds.
The area I was in was bone dry and not much wind until noon. we walked parts of an 80 acre piece, Belle was birdy a lot but they were runners and once they ran through any bare ground we lost track of them.
The next piece was over 300 acres.
Same scenario very hard scenting conditions and wild flushes. I ended up with my 3 roosters and had a great time.
My dog doesn't handle the heat real well so by 2:00 she was about spent.
The garmin said I walked 7 miles and the pooch did 13.
Great day but bring on the cold and snow!
