    She Died On Sunday. 11/18/2018

I just returned from my annual trip to South Dakota 11/4 through 11/13. This year I brought my almost 13 year old lab Sadie with us to South Dakota. She was not there to hunt but just to spend time in the hotel room and no be left home alone in the kennel. I knew that she did not have long left...

    Opening Day

On Saturday October 15, 2016 it was the opener of the pheasant hunt in Idaho.* I loaded the dogs into the back of the truck, at 4:00 AM and headed north.* We arrived at the first field, that I wanted to hunt, shortly after sunrise.* It had been raining most of the morning as I drove so after two...

    My First Rooster

As another pheasants season winds down I sit at a warm computer and reminisce. I have been hunting pheasants for a little over 25 years now. I remember the first rooster like it was yesterday. Dad handed me his 16 gauge shotgun it was an old Winchester that had the exposed hammer. He said...

    Last Call

Last Call South Dakota November 2013 We pulled the truck into a game production area at about 4:00 pm. It was a little GPA, not more than a quarter section, not very promising looking, cover was thin and no crops had been planted on the place. It's an out of the way hunting spot, not close...

    Youth Pheasant Hunt

So does anyone have an opinion on pheasant numbers this year? My son and I are considering a trip to Idaho in the morning to see if he can get his first rooster. I have a few public spots around Burley where I have seen a few birds in the past but just wanted to know if anybody has been seeing...

    Saturday 12/22/2012

Hunted more public ground on Saturday. We had a great day! Walked miles of tough looking cover and moved birds off of every piece. Nice mixed bag, we harvested quail, pheasants and huns. It was fun not knowing what we were going to flush next. One encouraging note; as we were driving to a...

    Nice Hunt Last Wednesday

My cousin and I made a day trip to Idaho on Wednesday. Had a good day, nice weather, and good company. We saw 6 pheasants all roosters on public ground. We managed to bag 3 between us. Pretty good dog work all day long. We also saw a covey of huns about 20 birds in the group but a gun...

Made my first Idaho Hunt of the year

Well the reports about the Huns being up this year were right on. My boys and I hunting today, 10-18, and we flushed large coveys of huns from every spot we stopped. Not wanting to be too greedy we took a couple of birds from each of our stops. We only saw 5 pheasants one rooster that had...

It has been a great season.

This site is kind of dead right now. Has everyone called it a season already or are there any diehards out there still chasing some birds? I have been out 3 times in December with mixed results. One day of limits where I could have shot 6-9 roosters. One day with 12 pheasants all hens and one...

    Thank You South Dakota.

We had another fabulous year in SD. The bird numbers were still great: Lots of mature birds, limits nearly everyday, miles of walking with good friends and the dogs. The people of South Dakota are warm and friendly to hunters. 5 Stars from me.

    Hunted Saturday 10/22

Made my first pheasant hunt of the year on saturday. I only hunted public ground and it was great. We harvested 2 huns 2 quail and 2 roosters. All in all it was a great day. Now if I could only find a good chukar spot close to where I am hunting I could go for a grand slam. :)

    How was the hatch?

Just wondering if anyone is seeing any birds this year. Huns, Quail, Pheasants: Last year was the best I have seen as far as Hun numbers go, but the quail were way down, pheasants were fair.
