    9 month old

So, I took my 9 month old GSP hunting this weekend in NW Kansas. Didn’t expect much but thought she would be interested, run to dropped birds, etc. hunted with 2 other guys and one other (10 month old dog). She was not interested and in fact “skittish” in the aftermath of a bird getting up. She...

    Thanksgiving weekend

Got out in Rooks County Friday after Thanksgiving for a couple of hours (yes, 28 members of my family conducted a civil protest on Thursday by having Thanksgiving dinner). Gorgeous cold morning with some frost on the ground and good moisture. We got two roosters including one of those you know...

Quarter for sale in Rooks County

160 acres for sale 2 miles south of Webster lake. More Wiha and public hunting in immediate area than anywhere in County. Rolling, big draw with trees and catails and 40 acres approx of CRP at 48 an acre (I think). Land is down so probably 1k an acre. Message me if interested.

Land prices...thoughts on future of WIHA

300 plus acres of average cropland in Rooks County (twin mounds area if you are familiar with the County) sold last week for $2,400 an acre. As far as I know that is a record. It had oil production (5,000 a year in royalty payments) but 2,400 seems slightly insane. Good cropland with some...

    Re-enrolling existing CRP

We have 40 plus acres that we are re-enrolling. I got a request from USDA for a practice to be done in 2015 or 2016. Whcih do you think is best for birds? Burning 2nd interseeding; light disking managed harvesting managed grazing My thought is 2nd interseeding but would like opinions. Disking...

    West Kan Update

I was out in Ellis and Rooks counties this weekend. I wish it was dove season as I could have shot (at) a limit from my sister's porch. I was surprised to the good about milo. Milo actually looks pretty good overall. There are fields that it looks short and hasn't headed out but as a whole, not...

    Biomass map?

I remember last year just before the season there was like a biomass map of Kansas/Okla. Anyone remember what it was called or where a current one can be found?

    Field Trials

I would like to know more about field trials. I have a nice little setter who I don't think would embarrass me about finding birds or holding them to flush. However, she does not retrieve at all (she marks downed birds, goes to them but does not bring them back). Are there any trials that do not...

    Couple Of Rooks County Points

These were from opening weekend. Did approximately the same Thanksgiving weekend. The little setter is 1 1/2 years old. Really pleased with her. :) Makes up for all of the parts of my house she has chewed up. (Not great with attachments we will see if this works)

    Pen Raised Birds

I am thinking about supplementing birds the first weekend on at least part of my ground. (I had more moisture than most but bad hail). Do bird raisers ship adult birds? Any names anyone uses that might ship or would be in W kan or in Salina area as I'm coming through? Thanks

    10 month old Setter

Hunted her at 8 months on wild birds in Kansas and she would go all day, got birdy a couple of times but no points. Took her to a preserve this weekend to see if she had matured some and I got 15 points from her and she was steady to flush on 10 of them. She is a little bitty thing (under 30 lbs...

    New Pup!

I have been looking for a bird dog for probably a year. Found a litter of setters up in Kansas and bought a female pup. She's gorgeous (i'm prejudiced) and pointed where a blackbird HAD been on first day. I will try to figure out pics.

    Sorry

I earlier made a post on this forum that I should have put in the classifieds. Sorry. I have now actually read the forum rules. :)

    "I though it was walk-in"

"I thought it was walk-in" The next jackass who tells me that while standing within 50 yards of a purple post with an orange sign that says "private property-keep out" I'm calling the sheriff, the game warden and maybe chuck norris and having them arrested.

    Restaurant in Plainville

I was looking through threads a week or two ago and someone was trying to remember the name of the restaurant/bar in P-Ville. Tina's. Good steaks, burgers, etc. I think it has changed hands but its always been good.
