    Pre/Post Hunt Dog Supplements

The key is proper conditioning before season. I never feed in the morning always worried about stomach twist and such. Years ago I learned a trick from a musher friend, I cook up a mash of rice and ground up venison, package it into servings and freeze.Take package out in the morning to...

    A true triple?

Shot a true triple in South Dakota a few years back, really cool experience. I also shot three roosters with an over/under in MN. Two birds got up, two went down. Broke gun reloaded as third bird got up, dumped him too without taking a step. Occurred really fast !!! Not a true triple, but...

    Tail feather: how long

I always considered a 25" tail to be similar to shooting a big 10 point whitetail deer, rare but doable. Having said that, I have two 27" tails, both wild birds. Didn't mount either one because birds were giant and looked terrible

    Cheap lead shells

All good points. Yes you are right patterning is everything, without a long comment chocks/guns are all unique and need to be tested to determine effective kill range and density.

    Cheap lead shells

Not sure of # of birds shot by most of the folks on here, but I shoot and see alot of birds shot each year, and my unscientific observation is that more wild roosters are shot with 11/4 Oz. #4 shot, than any other load. Birds are hit and anchored. Brand doesn't seem to matter, we all have our...

    2021 Outlook

I visited with our friends yesterday in Central part near the river, he is not seeing any birds, does not look promising at all. He drove home yesterday and took gravel roads the entire way at 4:30 pm. Never saw a bird !!! Crops are slowly coming out, he is hoping that might help.

    Dog price questions

I breed Labrador Retrievers and I will tell you this much. The upfront cost of the dog/pup is typically a reflection of the quality and thought that went into the line and breeding. The cost incurred by the breeder to get the sire and dam to that level is expensive, health clearances...

    Just returned from South Dakota

Just returned from S.D.. Here is my report: saw a fair amount of hens with chicks, mix from tiny probably only 2-3 days old to chicks that could fly short distance. Batchelor roosters standing around during the evening was a common site, guessing based on past experience similar numbers to last...

    dog catches a pheasant

Several years ago, we were hunting the last weekend of S.D season, there was fresh snow and the birds were packed in the tree lines. I had one dog that is a master at catching birds, she caught 8 birds in one tree belt !!!!! 4 hens, 4 roosters, that was a memorable day !!!! Side note, all the...

    Updated South Dakota Report

Ok, so here is my most recent report from S.D. I'm providing this mostly for the folks that don't hunt S.D on a regular basis and are trying to figure out if they should come or not this year. I am very lucky and blessed, I get to hunt private ground exclusively and some of the best pheasant...
