Here is one thing I've really struggled with

I agree with Goose, it crushes them. My buddy and I have both had old dogs die while we were on a trip. No one will ever convince me that it was coincident. They died of a broken heart. I will do everything I can to take them. I park and go through the routine, put them down and take a little...

    Retirement gift for me!

I like the Fair Rizzini guns. Slim and pretty. Very much reminds me of a Beretta. I Like the looks of the Franci Instinct also.

    28 guage

That's what I shot when they were affordable! But my humble opinion is with a 28 or 2 3/4 20 does not have enough shot for WILD pheasant unless you only take birds that flush at your feet. Years ago, I bought a 1100 special field 20. Practiced all summer and shot it well. Took it to Iowa and...

    Is this Hungarian partridge?

    Fall gobblers

NOTHING I've ever hunted has the eyesight they do! Heard a large group of hens and poults yesterday shortly after flydown but couldn't catch up. Later had a Tom gobbling like it was spring! I think they were both Jakes. One busted me on the way in, but I got between them. Hid behind a brush...

    Meindel Boots

They are still good boots. I like the (ultra lite hunters?). I could be thinking about a different boot, but I think like so many others the quality fell a notch when some brilliant ceo decided to move the production from Germany?? to Vietnam??.

The next thing I would try is follow the food. Here the poults are still with the hens. She will take them to hay fields for grasshoppers and such. Also, small acorns and shoots in the woods. But basically, you need to walk your ass off.

    Fall gobblers

Cruiz around after a rain. They often will get out in the open to dry their feathers.

    2024 Upland Season

I saw a guy almost kill a dog in a dove field once. the third time that I went over and told him his dog was too hot, I wasn't very nice about it. Poor dog was gulping with every other breath. Sure sign of overheating!

    2024 Upland Season

I've never liked to use dogs on doves. Always hot and the feathers come off to easy. I always cleaned out my dog's mouth after every retrieve, but They still will get choked on them sometimes.

    Looking for expert opinions

As stated above, lots of if ands and buts. Rule of thumb early morning and the golden hour, heavier cover for roosting, I've seen roosters fly in way after shooting hours! Then most but not all will move to feed. They like to walk but will fly there. Feed can mean middle of a corn field to cover...

    Land prices.

It's probably old coal money. From the 70's until the war on coal, coal mines were prevalent in their area. Rumor used to be that the town (800 people) contained the most multi-millionaires per capita in the state.
