    Vetting Breeders

Lol. No mine always come from a kennel where training is the priority. Not from someone who produces the occasional champion but makes champions on a consistent basis. Stefani Lathom at Riverview Farms is about as good as it gets if you want a dog. Riverview Farms is where my last dog came...

    Vetting Breeders

I never buy dogs from a breeder. I always look for a trainer that breeds a litter every year or so. I want my puppy coming from someone that trains dogs for a living and has a plenty of birds on hand. And from someone who know that a puppy should not leave til 8 weeks, that is on a high...

    Dog soap, shampoo?

I think using soap and shampoo on a labrador is one of the worst things you can do for their coat. I hose mine off a couple of times a year and fill the stock tank up and bath them with no soap. Just water and my hands. My dogs have the best shiny coats of any dogs you will find. They are...

    These video guys

Goose for someone who hates these "video guys", you sure watch a lot of them. I don't really know what you are talking about because I don't watch them. By watching them, you are supporting them.

    These video guys

I am not worried what it will be like in 50 years. I'm worried about this year. Look how much it has changed in the last 10 years and how few birds we have. Prairie Chickens have all but disappeared in my lifetime so in 50 years, I am sure there won't be any upland birds left to hunt...

I guess you missed the point. We are not talking about one single farmer, we are talking about farming practices across the county. It is great that you have someone who manages ground that way, but they other 99% doesn't.

Well that's one family out of hundreds. There are lots of participants in CRP, unfortunately most of them allow grazing and cutting at the first opportunity. Very few leave it untouched during drought. They cut and bale every inch of grass along state/county highways and public utilities...

That is not true. I lived in Decatur county for years and farming practices have changed drastically and so has the habitat. Farmers and landowners have everything to do with pheasant numbers. If we have habitat, regardless of weather, we will have plenty of birds. It is much easier to blame...

Pockets of birds simply refers to where there is habitat there will be birds. The strips of CRP has gotten smaller and smaller so you have to drive further and further between area's. I don't know why they use the term pockets. I guess because they don't want to admit that our habitat has...

    Muck/Rubber Boots For Upland

Don't have to be in standing water for wet feet. And like I said, I hate lacing. My Mucks are so much more comfortable than my Irish Setter Wingshooters and Danner Pronghorns.

Tristar Viper G2 or Weatherby Element - Back Up & Rainy Day Gun

I always take 2 guns on a trip. Both are very expensive. Life is too short to own a cheap gun. Actually I don't consider $1500 or $2000 expensive for a gun when you figure what you pay a year for gas, auto insurance, eating out, etc. At least with a gun, you can have them for a lifetime vs...

I have a Briley Extended Light Modified that I like but used the Mod for shooting the 3 shots.

    Playing with patterns

So I took 3 shots just as I would be shooting a bird today, no aiming like a rifle, just a natural shot and here is what it looks like. I was going for a 60/40 shot distribution. I did not count pellets but I would say I am pretty close to 60/40. I could shim down to a D shim and lower POI...

Tristar Viper G2 or Weatherby Element - Back Up & Rainy Day Gun

I try and buy one new shotgun every year. Bought the M2 a week ago. Have a new Browning A5 20 on order. And I am on the hunt for a mint condition Ithaca Model 37 20 gauge with a 26 inch vent rib and Improved Cylinder.

Tristar Viper G2 or Weatherby Element - Back Up & Rainy Day Gun

I always grab my synthetic guns on rainy or snowy days, my Browning Maxus Wicked Wing or my new Benelli M2. If I were on a budget, I would consider a CZ over the ones mentioned. Personally, I own a lot of guns, and all are Benelli or Browning. I would not consider any of them back-ups.

    New Benelli M2

I went out and shot my gun at paper tonite. Shoots about dead on. Best shell and choke combo was a modified Briley extended tube and Winchester Super Pheasant #5. Golden Pheasant #5 had to many holes in the pattern.

    New Benelli M2

So you keep the bead in front of the bird. Birds rise so the Benelli is designed to shoot a 60/40 split high. You may pattern high, but if you are using the bead, you will be deadly in the field. That is why many people struggle shooting a low rib Montefeltro. I tend to shoot low and behind...
