"Thank you" for access to land?

If you speak the farm language you are usually pinned down for a long time. A few of these conversations have resulted in life long friendships.

    Millet

Good friends plant 2 or 3 quarters every year. In the fall they swath it for late season grazing. When the Canadian geese find it they call us into action. Most times the birds will be back in a day or two after being hunted.

    2024 Spring Turkey Hunt

Dog walk this morning. Lab flushed a mother turkey and 6 little ones out of the soybeans. They were about softball size and still light colored. Not very good at flying yet. Dog and I were both wide awake after that.

"Thank you" for access to land?

My wife used to have a candy business. When she hung it up she kept some of the equipment. Every year at Christmas time, everyone who granted us permission gets a box of homemade candy. They might not remember us, but they always remember the candy.

    Preferred 20 Gauge Shell

My wife shoots 3 inch #5 and does very well. But back in the day my old man shot lots of ducks with a original 870 and 1 ounce of #6. He never complained about being under gunned. I still have the 870. Also some of the paper super x hulls. Enjoy your new gun.

    Semi Automatic 20 Gauge Recommendations

Wife shoots a browning Gold. I have a Silver that is old enough to have nice wood. The Gold is a bit heavy for a 20 gauge, but the recoil is less. No complaints with either.

Fugly shotguns is it just me ?

Even the new Brownings. Looks like they buy their wood from Home Depot. How much could a decent piece of walnut cost?

    Low Turkey Numbers

As far as nesting, nobody traps coon anymore. Without coon trapping the skunks and grinners also get a free pass.

    Low Turkey Numbers

I don't get out until later in the season. Call shy birds are the norm. It's like the old man used to say about duck hunting. "Some days the best thing you can do with a call is put it in your shirt pocket".

    Spring Turkey

Managed to talk my wife out of her marinade recipe. First sprinkle with some Adolph's and pierce with a fork. Marinade, 1cup white wine, 1 cup lemon juice, 4T dijon mustard, 2t rosemary leaves, 2t oregano, garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. Place turkey breast and marinade in a zip loc bag...

    Spring Turkey

My wife's favorite is to marinate the breast meat and grill over indirect heat. Do not over cook. The legs and thighs are used for turkey and wild rice soup.
