    Hunting with two dogs.

I like having 2 dogs on long trips. My Vizsla cut his paws up last year on snow and ice and I had to pull him. Wasn't anything major but I could tell it hurt, so I let him heal up. My GSP is half his size, older and tougher feet. She didn't have an issue with her feet, so I hunted with her every...

A gift for your hunting buddies

I bought my son, brother and nephews a custom cow elk call several years ago with the year on it. My son and I still use ours. I never saw my brother or nephew carry them or use them....which honestly irked me. I killed a large bull with mine a few years ago. Bull bugled every time I hit it and...

    Hot Beef Commercial

I grew up on it. The last time I had it was in Aberdeen last year at a local place. It wasn't very good. Calling it bland would be kind.

    Must Haves?

An extra set of truck keys in my vest. I lost my main keys in an Iowa field once and my extra set were back in the motel room......about 30 miles away. Fortunately, it was a small field and I had a long lanyard on them and found them. Lesson learned though.

    Muck/Rubber Boots For Upland

I have a pair of Muck boots that were made for upland hunting. Lace up, traditional looking boot that they stopped making several years ago but I wear them when I'm hunting late season in cold weather. Warm, rubber lace up with neoprene insulation and completely waterproof. Pretty comfortable too.

OT- homemade meals while on the road

My wife created something new for me this week. Meatball rolls. She put pre cooked meatballs inside Rhodes frozen dinner rolls. Defrost the rolls, let rise and then bake the rolls with the meatball inside. Coated the roll with garlic butter and seasoning after pulling from oven. Similar to a...

Puppy Research - Identifying Litters w/ Bloodlines

There have been some great dogs that were bred a lot, that never produced anything close to what they were. While other good dogs consistently produce good or sometimes great dogs. It's funny how genetics works.

Puppy Research - Identifying Litters w/ Bloodlines

Breeders often know who is having litters and really know the dogs both the good and the bad. They talk a lot and they compete against them. They can be a good resource......if you're looking for a pup and they like you. They like people involved with the breed too, so I got involved in a Vizsla...

Puppy Research - Identifying Litters w/ Bloodlines

I wish. In the Vizsla world the best breeders have 2 year waiting lists, don't advertise litters and in some cases won't admit they are having one if they don't know you. Especially in the field trial world. A lot of the top people are friends. When they do have a "special" breeding, it seems...

    Must Haves?

For my dogs I bring a skunk kit, fan and extra battery(warm weather), a water filter pitcher for their drinking water....to reduce chance of stomach issues and a couple different food toppers to encourage a tired dog to eat.

    Must Haves?

I hunt by myself most of the time and don't like wasting time cooking. Eating out in a lot of small towns sucks too along with the "free" breakfast. I bring pre-cooked meals. Breakfast casserole, chili, pasta, etc., and heat up in microwave. If there is a Hy Vee in town, I have found they have a...

    Dog scratching constantly

I am fostering half lab pups and the one pup broke out in a bad rash on his stomach and feet. Took him to the vet and along with some medication, I switched him off of PPP Chicken and Rice and over to PPP Lamb and Oatmeal. His rash cleared up in a couple weeks. My old lab had bad food allergies...

    Getting ready

I really enjoy this time of year. The season is right around the corner and I'll be putting my Vizsla is some fall hunt tests, doing a bunch of training for both me and the dogs and I decided it was time to clean up and get my stuff organized. Too hot to do much else anyway.. -I cleaned out...

    Hearing protection:Alclair

I think I'm going with the Alclair. They are the most reasonably priced that I have found, they're made in the US and seem to fit all my needs. I am starting to get ready for upcoming hunt tests, training and the season, so I'm going to place my order this week so I'll have them when I need...

Is Bismuth Shot really more effective than Steel?

This will be my first year hunting with Bismuth. I have an old A5 16 gauge w/modified choke that I bought several years and I've decided to hunt with it this year. I bought a case of Bismuth #5 for it. In my 12 gauge, I normally hunt with #2 or #3 steel shot and I got a case of Bismuth #4 to try...
