    Hunting during deer season

Guys, I live in Georgia. Years ago the BobWhite Capital of the world. Not now. It is nothing like the plains here mostly deciduous trees and pines. I used to hunt deer but I feed so many in my yard every day I care nothing about shooting another one. That’s just me. Nothing against anyone that...

    Out of Towner Questions

You will not regret it. If you have the time save a day for the Black Hills. I always make that part of the trip. Love the western history out that way!

    Out of Towner Questions

The Dickinson area is great. I hunted it many years. Pheasant are outstanding there. You will also find Huns and sharptails. Also plenty of great lodging and restaurants in Dickinson. Hope this helps

    This Years Hatch.

Thank you for the response. Sorry about that. When I was asking about the hatch in the southwest I was referring to Southwest North Dakota.

    This Years Hatch.

Hi everyone. Any reports on young birds in the southwest? I hear it’s been dry. I hope all the upland birds still had good hatches

    Hettinger

We hunted mainly private but the walk in areas we did hunt were all CRP and all held quite a few birds. In the heavy snow the walking was brutal with snow breaking down the switch grass but we did okay. Just about all prairie weeds. Hardly any cat tails or trees

    Nebraska not worth the trip

Hi everyone. Just curious. Does anyone out there now how the quail and pheasant made it through the the January storm and extreme cold. The bobs were really starting to come back. Hope they didn’t get wiped out. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hettinger

This is response to inquiry this morning from Mike. I think Hettinger is a good area. When we hunted it was in the middle of a big snow storm in late October. In the past I have always hunted about 100 miles north of there. I was used to a lot more wheat country and and long coulees and draws...

    Nebraska not worth the trip

Poor Bob Whites. Just got back from a great quail hunt in Nebraska. More Bobs than I have seen in several years. It’s a real shame. They have just really starting to bounce back and they are really going to suffer the next few days. I hope they can find some open patches where they can feed...

What the KDWP Blames It On

Anyone got any info on how the hunting is this season around the general area of Hill City. Last time I was there not good.

    Hettinger

Good evening. How is the hunting going around the Hettinger area. I was there in late October during the big snow storm. We did okay on all species of birds. Could have done a lot better if we didn’t have to hunt in that driving snow and also very little of the corn was out making it very hard...

    Nebraska not worth the trip

Good evening my friends. Planning a trip to southeast Nebraska after Christmas. Hunted there many times over the years. Pheasants used to be off the charts. Unfortunately that has changed the last 10 or so years. Some years the quail hunting can still be good to great. Already been to North...

    Best rural eats

If your hunting on the High Line in Montana the Hitching Post in Malta Montana has absolute killer breakfast and the area has great Pheasant, Sharptail and Hun hunting as well. Try it sometime. A haul to get there but well worth it.
