    Camping?

There is a show on National Geographic channel about Williston and the crime that followed. That part of ND has a much different viewpoint on crime than the rest of rural ND.

    Camping?

A few of the city campgrounds could still be a little rough up there ... although most of the oil guys (and the riff raff that follow them) are long gone.

    Paul D. Nelson

One of many high end shooting spots in SD. Must have had some posts removed ? Nothing distasteful above.

    Fall Forecast

Remember that far SW MN was really quite low in the counts in 2019. 146% of low is not high. Better bird numbers (at least those spotted and counted) a little further in.

    governor's pheasant hunt canceled....

No issue - that hunt is one of the last things Walz should do based on his current .... (I'm too kind) That hunt is not really needed. Last year they ran some hunts on preserves - what does that prove ? MN is fortunate to not have a much of a PETA threat either in the field or the...

    Headed to Kansas

Some Kansas residents will have no problem spotting and turning in nonresidents staying at motels and eating at small cafes. Maybe the chance of being caught is small if not irrelevant ... unless it just turns out to be "you". Truck drivers maybe exempt because of an essential status ...

received a great letter today from GFP...

USF&WS easements are designed to protect wetlands and other ideal "conservation" land from being farmed and drain tiled. It is perpetual and transfers when the land is sold. Different than CRP in target areas and length of time. CREP is kind of an in-between program designed mostly to...

    Flea and tick

I hate most monthly topical liquids and collars. Nexgard works extremely well. I use April, May, September and October. Same pharma company as Heartgard. No adverse effects on my Britts. Topical sprays work well for day trips.

    Brood counts

Wonder if the $700K goes to the general ad fund or specific to fall pheasant hunting. SD advertises pretty heavily in metro MN.

    fake pheasant

I have had a couple dogs refuse to pick them up. Most like tennis balls or tennis ball material rods better. They retrieve birds to hand in the field.

    First Dog, training questions

They make 12 gauge shotgun shells with just a primer. No powder or shot. They have about the same sound as a starter pistol. They are inexpensive. Kind of nice to tote a shotgun and shot a few shots ... Dogs quickly learn what a gun going into a case means.

    First Dog, training questions

Make sure you purchase a dog with good bird finding and pointing genetics. Professional dog trainers have to use pigeons because of the economics. Pigeons are cheap and often reusable. I have never used an e-collar, but again understand why the pros do. A good pro will likely have 8 - 10...

Farmers and Hunters aging. Recruitment issues in farming too.

Interesting USDA article. Farmers aging as fast as hunters. Haymaker maybe surprised but I come from a pretty rural and very farm based ancestry. It is interesting to note that of all my relatives by birth and marriage, I can count two that stayed on the farm with their parents...

University of Minnesota promoting Wild Rye to displace buckthorn. This could be bad

University of Minnesota has a buckthorn replacement project "Cover Up". One strategy is to use other plants to displace buckthorn once the buckthorn is pulled or cut back. They are promoting wild rye as one way to displace the buckthorn. This project could end up spreading more wild rye...
