    Rio Royal Pheasant copper #5

Thanks for your reply and info. I'm sure they will be adequate out to 40 yards with a Mod. choke and looking forward to your patterning findings. Hoping everything goes well with your wife's recovery!

    Rio Royal Pheasant copper #5

Ok, Rio 12ga 3" #5 lead shot... What is the payload and listed velocity? I'm sure they will be adequate for pheasants within range but was wondering about the specifics of the load. I'll be looking forward to your patterning info. Hoping you'll do that at a measured (muzzle to pattern sheet)...

    Pheasant and/or ducks?

Black lab. She is mostly a duck dog but I hunter her on dove, rail, prairie grouse, pheasant, ducks and geese. She gets to waterfowl hunt about ~30 days a year and we try to hunt pheasant 10-12 days a year. We also hunt dove, rail, and grouse when we have a place with birds. I'll admit that...

    HEVI-Bismuth No. 5 load update

After several comments that bismuth needs to be shot in tighter chokes, I've gone back and done some more patterning with the same replacement shells that Hevi sent me. The IC patterning was just for the heck of it and the Full choke patterning is for those that commented that you need tight...

    HEVI-Bismuth No. 5 load update

12 GA 2 ¾” HEVI-Bismuth No. 5 load (Replacement shells) After dissecting and patterning the HEVI-Bismuth shells I originally purchased from Hevi-Shot, I contacted them about my unusual results and findings. See my previous post about the HEVI-Bismuth load. Hevi-Shot wanted my left-over shells...

Boss vs. Kent vs. HEVI bismuth loads

Elksniper -- Sorry I'm late getting to you, but I been chasing turkeys the last few days! Here is some info I put together on patterning that may be helpful. If you are patterning to assess your load and choke performance, not checking for your guns Point-of-Aim/Point-of-Impact (POA/POI), here...

    HEVI Bismuth loads

12 GA HEVI Bismuth loads I cut open five shells, from the same box as the shells to be patterned, and the components (powder and shot) were weighed, counted, and measured for consistency. Here are my findings from those dissections. 12 GA 2 ¾" HEVI-Bismuth load 1 ¼ oz #5 Bi (228 pellets) @ 1400...

    Kent Bismuth loads

12 GA 2 3/4” Kent Bismuth loads I cut open five shells, from the same box as the shells to be patterned, and the components (powder and shot) were weighed, counted, and measured for consistency. Here are my findings from those dissections. 12 GA 2 3/4" Kent Upland Bismuth load 1 1/4 oz #5 Bi...

    Boss Bismuth loads

12 GA Boss Bismuth loads I cut open five shells, from the same box/lot as the shells to be patterned, and the components (powder and shot) were weighed, counted, and measured for consistency. Here are my findings from those dissections. 12 GA 2 3/4" Boss Unmuzzled Bismuth load 1 1/4 oz #4 Bi...

Boss vs. Kent vs. HEVI bismuth loads

Boss vs. Kent vs. HEVI Bismuth loads For those needing or wanting to shoot bismuth loads at waterfowl and/or upland birds, I recently dissected, and pattern tested six bismuth loads and one bismuth/steel duplex load from three shotshell manufactures to assess their components and patterning...

    20 gauge Loads.

Here's a previous post of mine on 20ga pheasant loads. If you are shooting pheasants with a 20-gauge, go with 2 ¾-inch 1-ounce or 3-inch 1 1/4-ounce loads with lead #6s or #5s. Choked appropriately, those loads should take care of any pheasant shooting out to about 40 yards, if you can put the...

    Training:Male or female?

FWIW - I doubt it makes much difference in a hunting/family dog. I've had 4, 1 male and 3 females, no blondes just brunettes, and I prefer females! :ROFLMAO: This is Dixie! She had one litter at 3 and then spayed. Glad to not have heat cycles!

Number 5 or 6? Pattern Pics Included.

Glad you are patterning your load/choke combo since it's the only way to really know the kind of performance you are getting from it. Would you mind sharing the loads that were awful and what it was that made you think that?

Number 5 or 6? Pattern Pics Included.

Neither you nor the bird will know the difference between those loads in your scenario, if you can put the pattern on them! I would be using a 12ga 2 3/4" 1 1/8 oz #6 lead at 1200-1250 fps at those ranges. Here's the load I often use for my first shot on wild birds. Good luck! Patterning...
