Looking for a black lab puppy. Not paying more than 500.

Crate training is just another tool in the tool box. A lot of times when traveling or on hunting trips people that you’re staying with don’t really care for dogs. Having the ability to not have to stress out that the dogs flipping out or that who your staying with knows the dogs are fine outta...

    Private land hunting southwest Iowa

Hunt some private and public spots in the area. We always see and get birds. Live an hour away, worth the drive.

4s or 5s. IC or Mod. Switch to Mod. when the shot seem to be getting farther out

What are you doing to get ready for the upcoming season?

Couple years back I felt the same way, lost almost 50 was able to sustain 30. Learned what foods to stay away from and no more full strength Dew! Wanna lose 15 before season starts, also gonna start stretching my hips. Walking all that tall grass last year did a number on groin and hips.

    Cut pad

Hunted my setter pretty hard for a few days and got tender feet. Got some Paw Butter to soften his paws up. By that time we were done hunting but defiantly helped with recovery.

    Franchi Affinity 20 gauge

I got one. It is a great value for the price. Mine does not cycle light loads. Use it on NE and IA birds but not in SD. Doesn’t hit hard enough for me. Didn’t use it much last year for lack of finding variety of shells I like.

    Yep It Happened

Was out exercising the dog when a coyote approached us. I would have let my dog have at it with him but was afraid he would get out of range and not be able to control him. That ol yote walked us back to the truck. Really strange!

    More pheasants than ever before!!

The license thing has never bothered me. I’ve never bought more than two and some times carry over a date. I wonder what the percentage of people that buy two is. If I lived with in an hour of SD that would be very discouraging. Live in NE and probably hunt in IA more. That’s good money spent.

    Bumping birds at dusk?

Don’t most predators hunt at night? It’s not like they’re taking a nap and we’re waking them up. They’re in survival mode all the time. Just one part of the day when they are just a bit more predictive

Trying to shoot three rounds of skeet a week. Been a lot of fun. Always look forward to the day we shoot.

    Pen-Reared Pseudo Roosters

I don’t think game farms are for hunting. It’s just a place where men go to drink and party and shoot guns. They need to justify being away from home to drink and have fun so they say they’re hunting. Hunted quite a bit in SD and never have shot a pen raised bird

    Recipes for Roosters

Brined for 24 hours, smoked on a very low heat, basted with favorite sauce. Took over two hours to get cooked but very tender and moist. Texture was a little funky but maybe one of my new ways to cook phez. I thought the thighs tasted the best in this process

    Eating Grass….what?

Gotta get a new topic going before we all lose our minds🤪. First year I’ve really noticed my dog eating grass. It’s more like he’s licking it looking for a flavor he likes. Read a little bit about it, any insite?

    From the Aberdeen coaltion

Bird numbers? Who cares. I never hunted SD in the glory days but have always had pretty good luck the last few years. I’ve had amazing hunts and have had crap ones. I think it’s comical what people consider low numbers. The family farm in Central IA in the late 90s was a 9 or 10 for hunting. Now...

    Most popular breeds for pheasant

Late 90’s growing up in central IA shot a lot of birds with no dog. Knowing where the birds are is part of the human element. There was lots of birds so success was fairly easy. Living in eastern NE you need all the help you can get to find those few birds. Having a dog is like eating cake with...

Here's some Federal premium at a good price I think

I don’t shoot 16 but that is a good deal. For those who want good deals you gotta look all year long now. I’m not gonna pay $25 a box but could easily be sucked into a pretty box with a cool picture. Got these shells at scheels for $18, buddy patterned them and said they were pretty good.
