How do you store your frozen game and fish

Vac seal is the only way to go for everything. We still use bags for ground ven/elk but everything else gets vacuum sealed.

    Rate your past season

WI was inconsistent. We ended up killing 15 roosters in WI, most on public land with a couple private land birds sprinkled in. Seemed we flushed a a ton of hens in WI which is good. This is the worst winter in my lifetime however for the amount of snow and cold, I'm quite concerned about what...

    follow-up to huntable areas thread...

I hunted the last 3 days south of Aberdeen and there are areas to still hunt. I would say 50% of sloughs are completely snowed in but many are huntable once you get past that first big drift. Also about impossible to approach from the west or north. A lot of areas have a few deer trails through...

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

And now I’ve got COVID so I can’t even give you a report. Hopefully next weekend I can get out somewhere.

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

Of course they're getting 18" of snow where I was planning on hunting, the weather for the weekend looks good but man that's tough. May just head west and drive around until I find some spots that are attainable and figure it out from there.

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

Yeah this is going to turn into a game time decision on where I’m going. There are still some sloughs worth hunting up north according to my uncle. Just a pain to get to but once you’re in it’s not horrible.

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

My uncle reiterated the same thing, really slow going but the birds were there yesterday. He watched 50 fly into a slough and said it was combat hunting, but he had a couple flushes where he got dusted with snow they held so tight. I'll likely wait until the middle of next week to decide...

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

That’s really good to hear. Right now I’m likely looking at west and south of Mitchell and will drive where needed from there. I’ll report back with conditions after I get back. Still an outside chance I head to Aberdeen but I’ll wait for a final report from my uncle before I commit.

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

Yup I'm pretty well prepared. I spend 2 weeks in the backcountry every fall chasing elk and keep a survival kit in the pickup just in case with some of the same items.

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

I chatted with a couple of CO's this morning, I think I have a plan of what we're going to at least try. In talking with some CO's it is tough, but doable in certain parts in the SE corner. All my buddies bailed on me so it's looking like it's just me and the dog which is ok with me...

    Huntable Areas?!?!?

I’m planning on heading west the weekend of January 7th. Normally I hunt near Aberdeen but I’m seeing reports that a guy cant physically hunt, cattails drifted in completely and dogs can’t move. I’m perfectly fine with tough hunting, but it needs to be realistic that my dog can actually work...

    Need Help on Gun Upgrade!

Went pheasant hunting last night and my shotgun jammed and cost me a chance at another rooster (doesn’t excuse the first shot). I about threw it into the marsh and went home. Weird side note, flushed a hen and the idiot flew 150 yards directly into a power line and committed suicide. Got home...

    Twin Cities Taxidermist Recommendation

I think I found a local guy that only does birds after talking to a few people. I’ve been after this bird for years lol. I’ve killed a few that would’ve fit the bill but they’re either shot or in one case it would’ve been perfect but the dog ripped out all tail feathers chasing down a cripple...

    Need Help on Gun Upgrade!

I can live with an occasional Jam. But it’s happened 4x this year when I would’ve had an easy follow up (not an excuse for missing the first shot but another jam would’ve been a double). I just simply stated im not interested in a Sxs or o/u, I like having 3 shots because I hunt multiple...

    Twin Cities Taxidermist Recommendation

I’ve killed 170 pheasants over my golden and I’ve been patiently waiting for a late season WI rooster that wasn’t shot up, was handled gently by the dog, had memorable dog work, and nice late season colors (long tail feathers help too). Not sure the exact length of the tail but I have a 23.5”...

    Need Help on Gun Upgrade!

I may have mis-spoke on it, raised rib? Not sure what it's called specifically, where the barrel has a raised surface, when I handle the gun I like a clean sightline straight down the barrell with it slightly raised, the montefrelto I tried didn't have it. The Binelli click I see isn't a new...

    Need Help on Gun Upgrade!

I grabbed a pile of different guns. For fit and feel the Benelli M2 and Franchi Affiniti 3 stood out to me. I tried the Montefeltro on for size and I'm used to the vented rib and think it would take me too long to get used to not having it there. I know Beretta owns both of these companies...

    Need Help on Gun Upgrade!

I do shoot my 870 fine (well generally not the first shot because my brain turns off, but the 2nd one I’m good ;) ). I wish I were retired, but I’m blessed with a good job that only requires my time 3 days a week, so with a 4 day weekend every week I get to chase a lot of critters. Someone...

    Need Help on Gun Upgrade!

I'll check it out, I need to wait until after xmas until finally pulling the trigger. 1300 left our Venmo account and my wife won't tell me why so I need to be safe for a little bit yet :). I do agree that is a gorgeous gun though.
