    Lab puppy

First I want to thank Goose for his advice about taking young dogs hunting. My new Griffon was 6 months old at the start of pheasant season. I thought that might be too young but I had read where Goose suggested taking the dog hunting to teach it. So I took her and it couldn’t have worked out...

    Gobsmacked on public land!!!

I am originally from Minnesota. We lived in several different places in central and northern MN. My family and friends always called guys like this Minneapolis fishermen or hunters. I’m not sure if that was fair but it was frustrating at times to have boats pull up right next to us and start...

How often do you encounter the law?

Growing up in Minnesota, I don’t think we were ever checked. In Wyoming we usually get checked every year. We hunt pheasants on walk in areas and some need non toxic shot. The wardens have always been very good about it and talk a lot about how things are going. They check to see if we have...

    Sharptail Hunt

Sandhills Corral in Thedford is a really good place to eat if you make it to the southern side of the refuge. It’s right next to a motel that used to be dog friendly. I haven’t stayed there for a few years though.

How to get better at wingshooting

All the above are good advice. What chokes are in your shotguns? I think the shotgun you use doesn’t matter as long as you can hit clay pigeons with it and you have confidence in it. Also that it comes up right for you. When you bring it up to your shoulder is the bead on your target. If...

    Looking for gryphon breeder

You could check out Prairie Kennel in Sheldon, North Dakota. We got our first Griffon there and are picking up a new pup there next week. Nice people and some nice dogs. They have a new litter coming this summer.

Help with an A-5 serial number.

That is a beautiful shotgun! I have my own A-5 from 1973 and now my Dad’s from about 1960, both made in Belgium. My Dad’s has the round know too. I think they are really nice guns. Enjoy yours!

    Western Nebraska Report

Thanks for the good report. I haven’t hunted that area for a few years either. There aren’t many reports from Western Nebraska and I appreciate yours. It’s interesting staying with a dog in a motel room. Even a well behaved one finds things to bark at in the night.

    2022 Season In Pictures

I really enjoy reading your posts and looking at your pictures, Greg. I lost my Griffon to cancer about a month ago. It’s been rough to say the least. Posts like this help me stop moping around and think about hunting and picking up a new pup. I also spend time looking up information about...

    My First Opener in SD

I saw a TV show about guys hunting the Fort Pierre Grasslands. One of the dogs got bit by a rattle snake. I have never hunted there but I am wondering if there are a lot of snakes there.

Huron and Mitchell dog friendly motels

Sorry I forgot to mention that the Kelly Inn is in Mitchell. Close to Cabela’s and across the street from Culver’s.

Huron and Mitchell dog friendly motels

I have stayed with my dog at the Kelly Inn. It’s pretty nice and an easy place to have a dog. Ground floor rooms with outside doors are available. Hope your trip goes well and enjoy your time in the field. My dog is really sick and I’m not sure I will be able to go.

    Dog friendly motel near chamberlin

We really like the Howard Johnson in Oacoma. Rooms are really nice and you just let them know about your dog when you register. I think it’s $10 for your dog. Lots of grass around to walk your dog too.

    Question for a GFP CO

Nonresident licenses aren’t that much. It’s $121 that helps support the game and fish. It’s probably the best $121 I’ll ever spend.
