    Tristar

4shot. Show us a picture when you can. Is the trigger pull weight crisp and light like my 20 gauge?

Anyone finding ammo in the off-season?

Bought summer shirt and shorts at Midland, Mich Cabela. Signed up for their credit card and they gifted me a nice range bag, Leatherman tool, hat, and $20.00 I used to buy 2 boxes of 20 gauge Herters skeet loads. Jak looks happy…

    Golden Retriever Breeders

Lost my dear wife of 62 years just 18 months ago, but recently partnered with a lovely lady who trains obedience/agility for a hobby. Benny, seen here, has similar Topbrass bloodlines, and achieved high levels of performance in AKC hunt test and agility trials. Died of prostate cancer this...

    Golden Retriever Breeders

Yes. Chest protectors. And adds a little visible color when hunting dense cover. JohnnyB. I’ve had 7 Field bred Goldens in my 40 + years of hunting ducks, grouse and pheasants with the breed. Started with a Brittany (and no training skills). Fantastic nose and hunt drive…but my Brittany...

    Golden Retriever Breeders

Just looked at the gene pool for Goldenboy’s Rufus. Topbrass Cotton was all I needed to see. I’ve hunted with Goldens for over 40 years, and never been disappointed. Fabulous nose, hunt “close”, and biddable. [crazy4goldens.godaddysites.com)

Anyone finding ammo in the off-season?

Was in Cabela in Saginaw yesterday. Their inventory of both lead and non-toxic ammo is expanding. Target loads in all 4 gauges, starting at $ 10.00.

Anyone finding ammo in the off-season?

It’s easier to find factory loads than handloading components. Primers, shot and powder to load target loads for summer practice are nearly impossible to find. I’m getting nervous.

Looking into a 16 side by side

My Bristol was stocked 14 3/8, 1 9/16, 2 11/16. Just a touch more drop than “standard stock dimensions“, but fit my slight frame perfectly, and most important, delivered perfectly centered, 50/50 patterns at 20 yards on my pattern board from both barrels. If you like to see a little rib, it...

Looking into a 16 side by side

The Tristar Bristol, in addition to chrome lined barrels, has “black chrome” on the barrel/rib exteriors. More durable than traditional “gun blue” finish (albeit more difficult to repair). Mine looks like it will take a licking, and keep on ticking in marsh and meadow. I agree with birddude...

    Crying over spilled shot

46,800. That’s the number of #9 pellets that spilled out of my 28 gauge press onto my reloading bench yesterday. Took me an hour to clean up the mess, after I wiped away the tears. Assume no one else on Ultimate is quite that clumsy. Ron

    28 Gauge Choke

Assuming you are using 1 oz loads, Mod will deliver killing patterns to 35 yards if the choke delivers 60% patterns at 40 yards. Full choke (70% patterns) should be lethal to 40 yards if the bird is centered. #5 shot for longer shots.

    Your favorite pheasant O/U

Here is the 1991 gun. Similar models available from Joel Etchen in Pa.

    Your favorite pheasant O/U

My Beretta 687EL 20 gauge has been my go to pheasant gun for 31 years. Shot Fiocchi Golden Pheasants hunting the Ekroth farm near Winner In November. 6.2 pounds was ideal for day long hunts in corn and Milo stands.

Looking into a 16 side by side

Loaded brass 20gauge Alcan cases in the 50’s, just before the introduction of plastic cases. Used nitro/fiber wads, and Sealed the top wad with water glass. Unhappy with my Ithaca Flues performance using them (Alcan powder), I went to the pattern board…where I discovered extremely poor...

Looking into a 16 side by side

I’ve owned a Garbi.., a Grulla, a Win 21, & a NID in 16 gauge. Still own the 1926, Ithaca grade 3. It was the most consistent performer in my hands. Shoot RST 2.5 inch.
