Hey guys, I've got a trip planned for an area around Timber Lake for Dec. 7-12th. I've never hunted this late in SD. I have always gone late Oct. Crops I know won't be a problem. What are the sharptails like this time of year? There is obviously plenty of public land to hunt, but I'm curious on what the land is actually like. I'm guessing there are not many cattails. What type of cover should I be looking for in this area this time of year. Any help is greatly appreciated. PM if you would like.

Thank you...

Well I haven't hunted that area, but I've sure hunted a lot of late season sharpotails. The answer is big flocks and wild! You wll see flushes from as far as a sentry sights you. If you come over a hill, like stalking big game, and surprise them, you might get close. Individual birds may sit tighter than even early season. Don't forget the stragglers, there's one in every flock, so hustle up to the vicinity of wild flushes and be prepared. Limits are still possible.
