A good method the have mounts (other than high on the walls) in the house .... when your dog also lives there.

The late, great Young Bert, the not-right dog, would one day have greeted me, torn and bloody, with gashes all over his legs and head, proudly holding whatever parts of the display he had managed to retrieve for me.

(I swear, that dog will live with me forever, always prompting a smile and a rueful shake of the head.)
