It is looking like this will be a monumental year for red salmon fishing on the Kenai. Projected low returns of king salmon will shut the set netters down and a potential listing of the kings with the endangered species act could shut the drift fleet down. There will be no way to stop the hordes of fish heading upriver. The over escapement will degrade the spawning grounds causing lower returns in the future but a bounty for a couple years. I may even go down and stand shoulder to shoulder a couple times.
