On Saturday October 10th the Franklin County Chapter of Pheasants Forever in partnership with the Franklin County Conservation Board will co-sponsor a youth day pheasant hunt. This is an opportunity for boys and girls between the ages of 9 -16 to learn some out door skills including how to shoot a compound bow, basic gun safety and experience the fun of pheasant hunting while under the direct supervision of an experienced hunter. Youth 16 years old must have a valid hunting license and habitat stamp.
All youth should dress appropriately for the type of weather and activity. Those who participate will receive a blaze orange vest and ball cap and other safety equipment that they will wear during the day and take home as a keepsake after the days activities are over. We will be glad to work with those individuals that do not have a shotgun.
All activities will be under the direct supervision of an adult with experience in hunter safety. At the conclusion of the day each participant will have the opportunity to:
? Safely shoot a compound bow at a stationary target
? Safely shoot a pellet rifle at a stationary target
? Identify and explain the different types of shotguns used in upland pheasant hunting
? Demonstrate basic firearm safety practices
? Identify the male and female pheasant and explain the difference in size and color
? Demonstrate how to safely load and unload a shotgun
? Safely shoot a shotgun at a flying clay target
? Participate in a live pheasant hunt with hunting dogs and potentially shoot at live pheasant
? Watch a demonstration on how to field dressing a pheasant
This activity will be limited to 50 youth and participants, all of the days activities are free of charge. Pre-registration is required so that we can assure there will be plenty of food and safety equipment for everyone. A parent or legal guardian must be present with your youth. We ask that parents with hunting experience be willing to help mentor their child or children during the day?s activities. If you have questions about this activity, or want to volunteer to help look up the event by state and click on the Franklin County PF Youth hunt using the link to the PF events website below.
