Faulkton / Cresbard

Just got back from 4 days hunting north of Faulkton. Birds are down 50% from last year IMO. However, with the crops out the birds that are there are concentrated in the remaining cover. Bird numbers are good on the private land we hunted.
With 5 hunters our best strategy would be to work small dry slews in the middle of cut corn fields. We would get 2-3 roosters per push. We limited out each day by 1:30pm. Skunks / coons were more prevelent than I can remember as our dogs got skunked. Lots of young birds as well. The farmer told us 3 weeks ago he saw a hen with 4 softball size chicks running behind her. SD was good to us again. Hoping for a mild winter but thats not what the "experts" are predicting.

Sounds like you had a great trip Bob. We hunted a couple areas between Huron and Redfield and found the numbers to be similar. One spot west of Huron had as many if not more birds than last year. Another area was about 50% down. Still, coming from Michigan, a bad year in SD is still going to be great hunting.
