    Ice - SE/SC ND area

What will the impact on next years birds be from this? I assume that even thick sloughs can't protect them from freezing rain / ice.

AHHH , yea those things. Have seen them for years. I had assumed that they were one of the native prairie grasses . Those are excellent to lose downed quail in. Thanks for the tutorial guys!

The one time I hunted KS with a decent snow on was great. Would you describe what phragmites are?

    End Of Bird Season

May try to squeeze one more in. Otherwise it will be chasing the elusive Appalachian Grouse and possibly the southern bob. Been to the great northern plaines and the prairie this year. Moved bobs , huns , sharpies , and roosters. My 10 month old gsp has gotten some good reps and travel...

    Gobsmacked on public land!!!

You handled it the right way. Ive never ran into this exact situation. I have had deer hunters stop and ask if we cared if they sat on the opposite side of the section in case we pushed something out. It wasn't my favorite idea but they were cool about it. This guy you delt with didn't give a F.

    Unexpected Pheasant

Soil calcium is a limiting factor. It puts a limit on the hardness and thickness of the egg shell. Not the only thing but I remember a layover map we looked at in college. The soils that had the right amount of calcium was very similar to the pheasant range map.

    NEK...Ok

Made a trip to the northeast quarter of Kansas last week. My hunting buddy and myself , my 10 moth old gsp and his 1.5 year old gsp decided to try something new. It was different than our usual north central area that we hunt. More corn and beans than milo. Hunted 3.5 days. We were focusing on...

What the KDWP Blames It On

Great point. There would be little to no timber left in this country if it weren't for the State Forest Departments , US Forest Service and National Park Service. Wetlands would be fewer if not for the USFWS. All hunter and tax payer funded for sure. Im one of the people who would pay the...

What the KDWP Blames It On

Let me clarify , The KDWP biologist said it was difficult to get producers / landowners to sign up. It was MY opinion that the govt role would scare people off. I look at it like this (personal thought and opinion) Im a welder by trade. Its not all that I do but its how I identify like a lot of...

What the KDWP Blames It On

Listened to a podcast the other day. KS upland game bio was on it. He said it was difficult to get farmers / landowners to sign up. I think maybe its the idea of the govt having some control of their land and that outweighs the check.

2023 Season Pictures of Birds, Guns And Dogs

That's a lot of gun! Congrats! Just curious , are you running your dog in a vest for protection or more so you can see her? I picked up a thin blaze orange vest for my little and dark gsp , she aint easy to see in the weeds or deep woods.

    ND Snow Trip.

Southerner my whole life , so it took me a while to figure out how to approach the cover . I will say that seeing tracks kept me confident and ready. I have seen a few tracks over the years in the black soil there but nothing like it shows up in the snow. Saw literally zero other hunters too...

    ND Snow Trip.

So , I usually never carry water on hunts up there. Didn't really think about everything being frozen . She ate lots of snow but definitely got plenty of water back at the truck. I have just read many times that snow melts down to about a 3rd or less of water. Thanks all for the replies.
