No quail. I'm sure they are there somewhere.

Well I can't say we didn't see Phez. We saw one crossing the road driving into the IHAP we were hunting. We chased that bird 847 yards, according to OnX. It got up wild, about 80 yards away. The bird flew across the railroad tracks. So no go. Almost as if on cue it started to rain. We hunted...

leader in habit and quail success

Is there a slight rebound in Missouri. I'd say yes, but take that with a grain of salt. In places where I sometimes find coveys, I was finding coveys. In places where I usually find coveys I'd find 2 coveys. In places where I've lucked into covey's in the past (hunitng woodcock) I'm still not...

    Late Season Advice

Just guessing on TomTs behalf, but I've solo hunted near taller shelter belts and all you hear is roosters clackling coming out the otherside. It gets frustrating. If you have 2 people you can station one on either side.

    Quail Numbers

Great news on the quail! I was stunned (too stunned to shoot) this year when we found quail in south east, South Dakota. Not far from the Nebraska border. Hopefully quail are making a comeback through the range.

    Better than nothing

My gang points them the same. I'm walked in to more Woody type habitat and been shocked to get up quail and vice versa.

    Little help

I've hunted AZ a few times with some guys that live there and know the territory. First, if you have the dog with you, absolutely take the long heavy duty type needle nose pliers. The colla cactus is brutal. If your dog brushes up against, they are hooked. It's easy to deal with though if you...

Great trip to SD (not necessarily defined by numbers)

Thanks for the tips. I was shooting 5s. I'm sure now that they were too light.

Great trip to SD (not necessarily defined by numbers)

My two sons and I took our first trip to South Dakota over the past 4 days. We had the time of our lives, and also learned a lot. We pulled into a WPA ,in the southeast portion of the state, with about 3 hours before sunset. The 3 of us had a plan to hunt in a V formation and push toward a cut...

Hey gang, Thanks for the feedback and sorry for all the trouble. I dug out the certified pedigrees last night. Here they are. Brittman, These pups dad would retrieve everything. I would take him dove hunting and he would watch the sky for incoming doves. Sometimes he would alert me to incoming...

    Missouri opener/Rifle…:

I got a covey up on a conservation area that was archery only. Where the dog went on point I though it was a woodcock, which usually fly up and over trees. Instead it was a nice covey that flew straight into the woods. Then the dog went on point about 50 feet away. I knew those quail flew...
