    Bells on flushers

I don't run flushers, but in the grouse woods I use a bell but pheasant/prairie birds bells are a no go for me.

Are you Break Open 2 barrel (O/U and SXS) or Autoloader guy

I've gone the opposite of A5 and Revs. I started with autos, and last few years have been using an O/U. I feel I shoot better knowing that I've got 2 shots to make it count. I've always been a more instinctually/pressure shooter. It's why I'm trash shooting skeet but can shoot really well on...

Lets talk cleaning/processing after the hunt

Cleaning for me depends on how lazy I'm feeling at the time. At the end of every day (or midday if it's hot and again in the evening if I get more) I just quickly breast the birds leaving both wings on, place into a zip lock then in a cooler/hotel fridge until I head home. When I get home, I...

    Boots , what ya like?

I have no problems with nubuck leather. Pretty common leather. My Crispis are the most comfortable boot I've ever worn and I've had Meindls and Irish Setters and others. I'm not an iron worker, I'm walking in pheasant country.

    The flush

Some of y'all got too much time on your hands complaining about how and where other folks decide to go hunting. You guys should go hunting instead.

    O/U Which Barrel?

I'm a lefty, shoot a Citori with bottom barrel as my first shot, and I've also had it happen once before where I've gotten stuck in between when flipping the safety off. Benelli has a real nice safety/barrel selector set up I've noticed from looking at a friend's gun.

    Probiotics

The probiotics should help some, it won't hurt at all. Just give it to him everyday, at home or hunting to get the best benefits. But it almost sounds like he gets a little bit of anxiety induced (maybe not the best word but it's all that comes to mind) diarrhea due to knowing he's about to hunt...

    Probiotics

As Zeb said, I don't think probiotics will help your dog feel like eating during hunting trips, but it won't hurt your dog any, I give mine Nutri Vet Pre and Pro biotic daily. But it's purpose is for gut health, not to increase appetite. What can help during the hunting trip, would be a food...

    2025 season reports

Figured I'd throw in my report. Hunted out in the SW Tuesday through Friday after 3 days in the Grouse woods during pheasant opener. Tuesday rained all day and I didn't get out until about an hour before sunset, easily could have shot my 2 bird limit, missed 2 gimmes so wasn't a good start...

    Prairie Grouse

Hey South Dakota folks, curious some opinions on where a good general area is for a prairie grouse hunting. Mostly interested in sharpies and chickens. Huns are a bonus but not my main target. I've looked at the distribution maps and some other data and it looks like just west of the River along...

    Pointers in Cold Country

Since no one has vouched for a Small Munsterlander, I'll chime in. I've hunted prairie birds in 80s and 90s and pheasants for a week straight where the warmest it got was single digits with mine and she does great. Naturally they're a closer working dog (40 yards seems average) but some dogs...

    prairie chicken

Unsuccessful for me as well and I got 2 preference points. It was the first time ever I haven't gotten drawn every other year. Might have to go west for my prairie bird fix this year.

    prairie chicken

Usually the results are in around September 1st. Check on the prairie chicken page on the DNR website and they'll have a link once the draw has taken place to check if you were successful or not
