I am guessing you are referring to Prairie Chickens , my experience is the cover is thinner and lighter and you got the whole flock watching out for danger . I would be curious if anybody has further input ?

I tried a few spots I hadn’t hunted that I thought should be good with very little bird contact , The wind was coming up and I could feel the front start moving in . I was thinking 3 late season Roosters with 3 shots was pretty good for as tough of time as I have had getting on bird this year ...

I was able to get out today 1 -11-24 for a hunt in the Western part of the state on public land , I was hunting the day before a major incoming weather event. This incoming weather event and about 4 inches of snow on the ground seemed to sure help out with birds holding . I hunted this same area...

If our friends from Iowa could confirm this , I believe they had a very big CRP campaign to benefit Monarch Butterfly’s and other pollinators which in turn was a significant uptick in bird numbers . Iowa DNR has a formula when there is a drier spring under some many inches of rain and snowfall...

Tom , Thanks for sharing your trip with us , sounds like the area of the state you hunted was less affected by the drought than in the west part of the State .

Remy what year are you in your CRP contract ? Seems like the first 5 years can be really good then it will loose its plant diversity, unless it’s managed which I net you are keeping a good eye on . Your numbers speak well of what you are doing with your pheasant habitat .

Practice some before you go , shoot the gun that breaks clays the best , put the shot on the front end of the bird with a load of 5’ or 6s in the 1 ounce to 1 1/4 load and you are good to go , Like what was rated above bring a back up gun , I had this save an out of state trip for me .
