There was one covey that I have seen in North Central Iowa. I actually got lucky and shot a double with 1 shot. 1 Male and 1 Female. I have not seen them in the field ever besides that one time. Other than that I have only seen them in snow storms.
Would love to know what region you were in. I just hunted near Webster and the cover was not up to par and we worked HARD! It was still fun to watch the dog work and we got a few, just not what I thought would happen going to SD.
I was just up there during this time. We struggle to find good habitat. It was my first out of state trip. We didn't find any good cover because it was all hayed it seemed. Maybe this is just me. Would love to know.

It is my opinion, take it for what it is, that the ammo companies are going to slow roll product out until as late as possible until season openers. At that point they will roll them out. I hope I am right, really I'm just trying to be an optimist.
I live here, it is dry, dry, dry. However our bird numbers are up. Our report is going to come out in the next couple of weeks I think. You can take a look at 2020's report on the Iowa DNR website
Just going south in the state of Iowa for quail. Just had my first kid so travel is light this year. Paying my dues upfront with my wife, getting all the list done to buy as much time as possible.
